Do you ever wonder why there are so many large, green signs along our highways with lettering so small that you could never figure it out what they say. Well, every NJDOT project requires this type of sign. Why? We don't know. You have to be less than 50' away in order to read it. If you travel at 55 MPH you have only 1/2 second to absorb the information it contains. The average price of these signs is about $450, and guess what ? You pay for it!

Why would you install silt fence on
the very top of the slope? Is it to stop the silt
from flowing up the hill onto the pavement of the highway above?

New Jersey Motor Vehicle Inspection
Station
01/19/00 Rahway NJ
The following is a report from my recent visit to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Inspection Station:
From the very beginning I was very surprise to actually see an electronic sign at the entrance to the facility which clearly shows the estimated wait time. (See left picture). If you missed this sign and found your self in a long line, you still had an option to exit the station by using the by-pass. (See two middle pictures) For those of you who are not familiar with the area and don’t recognize the building to which the by-pass sign is directing the traffic, it is Rahway State Prison. We get the point Governor, the inspection is not voluntary. Finally the last sign (On the right) which is located by the entrance door to the station spells out in detail which documents should the driver have ready prior to entering. As you can or can’t see on the picture the driver is forced to read this sign from a distance of about fifty feet while waiting at the final stop sign. In summary, who cares about the two hour wait, it was entertaining.

It is very hard to believe these two signs are 1000' apart. But the kicker is the sequence in which they were installed. How would this work????
Sorry for the poor quality of this picture which had to be taken from a moving vehicle.
